Uruguay captain makes a switch to Paris Saint-Germain

Fenerbahce defender Diego Lugano is set to complete his transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, the Turkish club have revealed.

The player who led Uruguay to Copa America 2011 title has been linked with Juventus over the last few weeks, but he eventually opted for Paris Saint-Germain.

The deal was announced yesterday on Fenerbahce’s official website.

“We would like to thank him for his efforts with the club to date and wish him good luck,” read an official statement.

The player has also confirmed the deal via his Twitter account.

“I am happy to take on a new challenge at a super club like Paris.”

The 30-year-old spent last five years at Fenerbahce but decided to leave after the club were evicted from the Champions League for their involvement in a match fixing scandal.
