Uruguay star returns to Europe

Uruguay international full-back Alvaro Pereira has joined Getafe on transfer deadline day, the Spanish club have confirmed.

The 30-year-old joins the La Liga side on loan until the end of the season, as he gets a new opportunity to prove his worth in Europe.

Having failed to impress during an 18-month spell with Inter Milan, Pereira returned to South America, joining Sao Paulo on loan.

The full-back successfully kick-started his career while in Brazil and in turn secured a permanent move to Estudiantes in January 2015.

Pereira went on to score 2 goals in 24 league appearances for the Argentine giants and he clearly did enough to impress the Getafe officials, who seem to believe the Uruguay international can help the team avoid the relegation tussle in La Liga.

The versatile footballer has been one of Uruguay’s star performers in recent years, earning no fewer than 75 caps and scoring 7 goals in the process.
