Uzbek players banned for deliberate cards

Five Uzbekistan players have been banned for an additional World Cup qualifier for deliberately gaining yellow cards.

Shavkatjon Mulladjanov, Sanjar Tursunov, Islom Tuhtahujaev, Server Djeparov and Vagiz Galiulin were all sanctioned by FIFA and will miss the opening match of their fourth-round qualifier in June.

The players were all booked in the final 20 minutes of the 2014 World Cup qualifier against Tajikistan in November, meaning they would have missed the ‘dead rubber’ qualifier against Japan on February 29 and been available for the next stage with a clean slate.

Uzbekistan’s pathway into the final round of qualifying had already been assured prior to the game, and the five players, who had already been booked in the earlier matches, received cautions for deliberately delaying play.

The Uzbekistan Football Federation and five national team players have been sanctioned by Fifa after deliberately gaining yellow cards in their 2014 World Cup qualifier against Tajikistan.

FIFA reviewed the match footage and decided to sanction the five players in question, with an additional one-match ban each.

All five players were fined 2,500 euros, while the Uzbekistan Football Federation received a 15,000-euro fine.
