(GSM) – Mathieu Valbuena has extended his stay at Olympique Marseille after penning a new deal, ending any uncertainty surrounding his future.

The 25-year-old playmaker had been reportedly linked with a host of clubs with rumours suggesting an imminent departure.

However, the France international has brushed such claims stating that he always intended to agree fresh terms and is delighted to be able to lay the issue to rest.

“I have always stated that I love the club and its fans,” Valbuena told Marseille’s official website.

“With this contract I have shown that my commitment is worth more than words.

“At my age a player rarely signs on for so long at one club.”

Valbuena’s new contract means he will stay at Stade Velodrome until 2014.
