The Spaniard has become somewhat of a forgotten man at Stamford Bridge after making just four appearances in all competitions for the Blues this campaign, something he is said not to be at all happy about.
Now though, Valencia are ready to end his Chelsea misery and bring him back to his native Spain with a loan-move in the New Year, with the option to turn that into a permanent deal in the summer window.
Romeu’s representatives were reportedly spotted at the home of Valencia over the weekend, which mean a deal does look to be on the cards.
Much is sure to depend on what Roberto Di Matteo’s plans for the 21-year-old are – he may want to keep him at the club to act as cover for the likes of Ramires and John Obi Mikel.
If Romeu is not happy though, then it may be best for him to spend some time in Spain and it could work for Chelsea if he gains some first-team experience, then they can decide his future at the end of the season.
