Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia claims he knew of Manchester United’s interest in signing him last year.

Valencia completed his move from Wigan to United in a £16million deal earlier this week.

“I knew last December I would be going to United,” Valencia told Ecuadorian television.

“I had a conversation with Alex Ferguson, and he told me once the season was over he wanted to have me in his squad – I felt honoured

“What he said was as good as having signed a contract – he does what he says.”

Valencia was also being linked with a move to Real Madrid before joining Manchester United.
