Valencia coach Ernesto Valverde was unhappy with his team’s performance in defence in their 4-2 victory over Getafe.

Goals from Roberto Soldado, Jonas, Ricardo Costa and Nelson Valdez saw Valencia to the win, but not before Getafe twice pulled to within a goal.

Valverde, 48, was disappointed with the number of chances Getafe managed to create, and said he expected a much more conservative display from his team.

“I did not expect us to give Getafe so many chances on goal, as all the games we have played so far have been much tighter encounters,” Valverde told AS.

But Valverde said he was pleased with his team’s work ethic and is very much looking forward to seeing what they can achieve in 2013.

“Putting the result to one side, what is crucial is that the team works as hard as it can,” he said.

“In 2013 we want more victories and hard work, because there is a lot that we can still accomplish.”

Valencia sit in ninth position in La Liga with 24 points, four off the last Champions League place.
