Van der Vaart linked with Ajax return

Hamburg midfielder Rafael van der Vaart could be returning to Ajax in the summer, according to Bild.

The highly rated footballer has just over a year left on his deal at Imtech Arena, but with his side in danger of getting relegated from the Bundesliga, he could decide to leave the sinking ship at the end of the current campaign.

And Bild has now revealed that his former club Ajax plan to take advantage of the situation and lure him back to Amsterdam ArenA.

Ajax boss Frank de Boer has admitted his interest in Van der Vaart, while the player himself was coy on the transfer talk.

“I have always said that Ajax is my club,” the Netherlands international told Shownieuws, a programme on SBS 6.

“Besides, I obviously know coach Frank de Boer. But, right now my head is at HSV.”

Rafael van der Vaart, 31, has managed 7 goals and 6 assists in 24 Bundesliga fixtures for the team that have been struggling of late and are priced at 11/8 to get relegated to the second division.
