Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk is not convinced that Joris Mathijsen is ready to return from injury for his side’s Euro 2012 opener.
The Dutch side start their campaign against Denmark in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv on Saturday.
Defender Mathijsen pulled up with a hamstring problem during their recent 2-1 friendly defeat to Bulgaria, and doubts still remain whether he will be fit in time to represent his country against the Danes.
The 32-year-old took part in training on Wednesday but his coach is cautious about a premature return.
“Mathijsen trained with us at 70 percent and Thursday we hope that he will be able to undergo the full workout,” Van Marwijk told reporters.
“If that goes fine, then he’ll be ready to play against Denmark.”
The Netherlands will also meet Germany and Portugal in Group B.
