Van Persie avoids FA sanction

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie will not be retrospectively punished for allegedly elbowing Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew criticised Dutch forward Van Persie, citing ‘unsavoury’ behaviour and hinting past clashes between the pair may have led to Van Persie deliberately attempting to foul the Frenchman.

And while no action will be taken by the Football Association against Van Persie, Newcastle look to have been dealt a reprieve of their own, with no charge brought against midfielder Cheikh Tiote for appearing to stamp on Manchester United’s Tom Cleverley in the same fixture.

Elsewhere, Stoke central defender Robert Huth will also escape further action after appearing to stamp on Liverpool striker Luis Suarez during the 0-0 draw at Anfield.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis was vocal after the game about what he perceives to be the Uruguayan’s tendency to go down easily under minimal contact, but his team’s physical approach saw them finish the game with six yellow cards.
