Arsenal forward Robin van Persie has stated that Netherlands are one of the favourites to win Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.
The Dutch have already qualified for next year’s tournament and boast a perfect qualifying record with nine wins from as many matches in Group E.
Van Persie feels that his nation’s progress in recent years makes them one of the top candidates to go all the way and added that they are ahead of teams like Italy and France.
“It is fair to say that Netherlands are one of four, maybe five teams who are the favourites to win Euro 2012,” Van Persie told De Telegraaf. “I think that pretty much everyone in Europe will agree with me about that.”
“No team has made as much progress as us since the last European Championships. Teams like France and Italy haven’t made similar steps forward.”
The Netherlands face Sweden on Tuesday in their final qualifier.
