Norwich manager Chris Hughton says Ricky van Wolfswinkel was misquoted after his new signing listed potential areas for investment.
The 24-year-old Netherlands international secured a move to Carrow Road from Sporting Lisbon in a reported eight-million pound deal, agreeing terms on a four-year contract.
Van Wolfswinkel appeared to reveal Hughton’s off-season transfer targets to be an attacking midfielder and two wide players in an interview with Dutch magazine Voetbal International.
While Hughton made it evident he was looking to strengthen his squad next season, he believes the players quotes are untrue.
“I did hear the reports and they are certainly not accurate,” Hughton told reporters.
“Of course we will very much look to improve the squad. It is probably quite obvious the area we haven’t done as well as we would like this season and that is the ability to score goals and win matches.
“It isn’t rocket science they are key areas we would be looking at. Ricky is an indication of what we wanted to bring in – a forward with a very good goalscoring record.
“Certainly no specific individuals were spoken about or positions.”
