Central defender Thomas Vermaelen will be staying with the Belgian Olympic team until the end of the tournament, despite his one-match suspension.
This was reported by Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad on Monday.
Vermaelen conceded a red card during Belgium’s quarter final with Italy on Saturday, and will have to watch the semi final clash with Nigeria from the stands.
Vermaelen’s club, Ajax Amsterdam, hoped for a quicker return but this option appears to be ruled out.
