Verratti rejected Real Madrid for PSG stay

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti claims he rejected the chance to join Real Madrid and is happy to stay with the Ligue 1 champions.

The Italy international has been linked with a move away from Parc des Princes in recent weeks after a reported bust-up with head coach Unai Emery, following his angry reaction to being substituted in last week’s 0-0 draw with Marseille.

Verratti’s agent, Donati Di Campli, suggested this week that media scrutiny on his client could force him to leave France in favour of a possible return to Serie A, with Juventus and AC Milan rumoured to be interested.

However, the 23-year-old insists he is happy with life at PSG and has already rejected the opportunity to hold talks with Madrid.

“It’s more than a refusal – I refuse to negotiate with other clubs when I’m happy in my team,” he said, as quoted by Le 10 Sport.

“I was pleased by the interest, but I decided to stay to win again.

“Juventus are on another level in Italy, and they’ll win the title, like Bayern Munich in their championship, Manchester City, Real Madrid and us.”

Verratti played an hour of PSG’s 1-0 win away to Lille on Friday, in which Edinson Cavani scored the only goal.
