Victory just the tonic for Vermezovic

Vladimir Vermezovic said Kaizer Chiefs’ win over Platinum Stars on Saturday ended the problems in their camp.

After a week full of drama in Naturena, including the axing of captain Jimmy Tau and football manager Bobby Motaung’s contentious remarks about the Motaung family, Chiefs showed character on the pitch, and Vermezovic was full of praise for his players.

“It’s not easy to be calm after all the things that happened last week,” he said at a press conference.

“But the players are professionals and sometimes these things happen in football. We found the right way to fix our problem by winning the match and we showed character today.”

After league leaders SuperSport United won 1-0 away at Wits University, Vermezovic said it was important for his side to win to keep pressure on the Tshwane-based team, who are current favourites to win the title.

“We didn’t play so well in the first half but we managed to score the goal. We scored another goal through (Bernard) Parker, which I didn’t think was offside. But never mind,” he said.

“These are very important three points after a turbulent few days. We have got to thank (Arthur) Bartman for his saves and Jimmy Tau for clearing the ball off the line from the last corner kick.”

“It was very important for us to win this match because SuperSport won. I watched their game. It’s vital that we stay close to them.”

“We have to look to the future now. We got Maritzburg United next (on Tuesday) and that will be a difficult game for us. We have to do our best in that match.”
