Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has declared himself delighted after an “amazing” season for the Old Trafford outfit.

After losing last term’s Premier League title to rivals Manchester City in heartbreaking circumstances on the final day, United responded emphatically this season to win their 20th top-flight title at a canter.

They finished 11 points above the second-placed City and scored 86 goals in their 38 matches as Alex Ferguson’s reign at the club ended in triumph.

Despite having an injury-interrupted season – in which he missed half of the club’s 38 league fixtures due to knee and back injuries – Vidic looks back on the campaign with fond memories.

He told MUTV: “I’ve had a great seven years with the club where we’ve had so much success and we did so again this year so I’m very pleased.

“I think we’ve had 20 players who have scored goals this season which is amazing. It shows how good the spirit is within the team and how hard we pushed to win this title.

“Obviously, with all the good work on the training ground, we’ve managed that. You saw the players at the parade jumping and singing the songs and we had a good time sharing the title with the fans – they deserve it as they support us all year.

“It’s been a great comeback after last year and we deserved to win this title.”

Vidic also paid tribute to outgoing manager Ferguson, who oversaw a period of dominance at the club for almost 27 years.

In that time, United won 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups and two European Cups, and Ferguson’s impact on the club was immense, according to the Serbian defender.

“It was a real pleasure to play for the manager…(I) have to say he’s a great person who always cares about his players and he’s always driving them forward,” he said.

“He believes in them and that’s why the players always like to play for him. It’s a pleasure to play for this club and for this manager.”
