Villa considering move for Mainz keeper

Aston Villa are readying a January move for Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius, according to the Telegraph.

Manager Tim Sherwood is considering bringing in competition for current first choice Brad Guzan, who has conceded thirteen goals in eight Premier League games so far this season.

Karius moved to Mainz in the summer of 2011 having spent two years with Manchester City in their youth squads, though he never appeared for their first team.

Since arriving at the Bundesliga outfit, the twenty-two year old has racked up sixty-two league appearances, while internationally he has won one cap for Germany at every level from U16 to U21.

Villa suffered their sixth defeat in eight league games on Saturday, with Marko Arnautovic scoring the only goal of the game to wrap up victory for Stoke City.

Next up for the Midlands side is a trip to champions Chelsea a week on Saturday, and the away win can be backed at 7/1.
