Barcelona striker David Villa has been fined for showing a message to his wife and daughter on a t-shirt during their 5-1 defeat of Real Sociedad.
The attacker broke his leg during the Club World Cup last December, and celebrated his long-awaited return to competitive action by coming on as a substitute to score a superb goal in the rout of the Basque side.
After finding the net, Villa removed his jersey to reveal the phrase ‘Imposible Sin Vosotras’ – ‘Impossible without you’, accompanied by a picture of his family.
The Spain international’s emotional message, however, was deemed an offense by Spanish football’s Competition Committee, who state that removing a jersey to display advertising or any slogan is against the rules.
The 30-year-old has been punished accordingly and hit with a fine set between 2000 and 3000 euros.
