Barcelona’s David Villa delivered a timely reminder of his qualities to the club’s fans and management on Sunday.
The Spanish international, who was linked with moves away from the Nou Camp in the January transfer window, made a rare start for Tito Vilanova’s team in their La Liga clash against Getafe.
Villa was impressive, scoring a goal in a 6-1 rout that saw the club make it 20 wins from a possible 23 league fixtures this season.
Barcelona were dominant throughout the fixture and had six different goal scorers, something that delighted the club’s assistant coach Jordi Roura.
“Villa is such an important player for us,” Roura said.
“He was a starter today and we saw a great performance from him. So for a striker like him, to score is always important, and it is for us too.
“The fact there were six goals and six different scorers today, in terms of motivation … it’s very important.
“So important as well for Alexis (Sanchez) that he scored from the first chance he had and for us to keep him happy and motivated. It’s also important for us that Tello scored.
“The youngsters keep showing their high level when they have the chance which is exactly what they have to do. To work hard and prove their level.”
Barcelona will travel to Granada in La Liga next week before heading to the San Siro for a crucial UEFA Champions League tie against AC Milan.
