Villa look to tie up Spurs keeper

Despite concurrent reports suggesting that Aston Villa were pursuing West Ham United’s Robert Green to solve their goalkeeping problem, the Daily Mirror has now alleged boss Martin O’Neill will tie up a £5million deal for Tottenham Hotspur shot-stopper Paul Robinson within the next 48 hours.

The newspaper claims O’Neill will talk to the 28 year old England international to finalize a transfer to Villa. It has become clear that Robinson has no long-term future with Tottenham, in the wake of Ramos’ summer recruitment. Two new keepers have joined in the last week, Heurelho Gomes and Mirko Ranieri.

Robinson lost his form, and consequently his place in both the England and Tottenham teams over the past year, and has made it clear that he feels moving to Villa Park would give his career the new beginning it needs.

He has not figured in the Spurs first team since March, and Villa’s need for a new goalkeeper is well known, having lost Scott Carson as he returned to Liverpool.
