With Villarreal still firmly in contention to secure their second season in the Europa League, on Monday night, the Yellow Submarines will welcome Athletic Bilbao to the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Although Javier Calleja’s Villarreal side may have failed to come past Lyon in the Europa League last 32, the Yellow Submarines have enjoyed another successful season in Spain’s top-tier and are moving closer to another top-six finish. While the Yellows are coming off the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat away at rock-bottom Malaga last time out, Calleja’s side will still be filled with confidence after picking up a 2-1 win against Athletico Madrid in their last appearances at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

As for the Basques, José Ángel Ziganda’s side have endured an incredibly disappointing season and now sat in 12th position, Bilbao are on course for one of their worst league finishes since the turn of the century and there are some pretty serious concerns moving forward. Most recently coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo, Bilbao are now on a three-match winless run and have just picked up one win in their last seven outings. Athletic have also lost their last four La Liga away games, failing to score in each of them. The last time they lost five league away games without scoring was in March 1974.
