(GSM) – Barcelona striker David Villa has admitted that Saturday’s Supercopa first leg against Sevilla would be too soon for him to make his competitive debut for the reigning Spanish champions.

Following a 40 million euro move from Valencia to the Catalonia side in May, but his time at the club since then has been limited due to his commitments with the Spanish national side at the World Cup and this week’s friendly international against Mexico.

The 28-year-old, who hit five goals as Spain powered to World Cup glory in South Africa, insists he is anxious to get down to work with his new employers, even if he may be forced to watch on this weekend.

“The holiday has been good but when you start something new you want to get going as soon as possible,” said Villa.

Asked if he felt fit enough to take part in Saturday’s season curtain-raiser against the Copa del Rey holders, Villa added: “I don’t know. We’ve just come back from a very long journey. We’re tired.

“We start training on Friday and we don’t make these decisions.

“I expected the first training session to be held in different circumstances. We’re a bit tired by the journey but I’m keen to get started.”
