The Sun reports that Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry is desperate to join Liverpool in the summer, according to his agent Alex Black.

Boss Martin O’Neill had been keen to keep hold of the midfielder who has spent his whole career at Villa Park, however it seems unlikely that Barry will stay with Liverpool offering UEFA Champions League football.

Barry’s agent Alex Black told The Sun: “Gareth has spoken to Martin (O’Neill) since he returned from England’s game in Trinidad and told him how he feels.”

“At this stage of his career Gareth wants to be playing Champions League football and believes this is his chance to do it.”

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard recently admitted that he would love for Barry to join him at Anfield and it is likely the pair would play in the centre of midfield together.

Villa have reportedly turned down offers of £10 and £!2 million, but Barry hopes a deal of around £!5 million can be sorted out for his services.
