Vorm ´desperate´ for quick return

Swansea goalkeeper Michel Vorm says he is ‘desperate’ to make a return to the side after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury.

Vorm suffered a groin strain during Swansea’s 1-0 defeat at Manchester City in the Premier League after hurting himself trying to claw away Carlos Tevez’s fantastic strike into the corner.

Nevertheless, the 29-year-old has refused to rush his recovery for the fear that if he does so, he may suffer a similar injury later on in the campaign, despite his frustrations at having to watch deputy Gerhard Tremmel take his place in the side.

“My rehabilitation is going well. I couldn’t walk normally last week, but now I’m ok and the bruise is slowly going,” Vorm said.

“I’ve been doing a lot of work in the gym to keep my strength up and the blood flowing.

“I’m determined to heal quickly and strongly. I’m desperate to come back, but I know I can’t rush it. I’d rather be one week later than a week too early and it goes again.

“I had been having a slight problem with my groin for a few weeks before the Man City game. It was only a small problem which I was having treatment for. It was just an itchy, nagging feeling.

“Then I dived for Tevez’s shot, which was some strike right in the corner, and I could feel my groin go straight away.

“There was a lot of pain and I knew it was not good. It turned out to be a bad one, but it still could have been worse.”

Swansea currently sit safely in 11th place and will take on Alan Pardew’s Newcastle side at the weekend away from home, hoping to stretch their three-game unbeaten run in the process.
