Wayne Rooney on brink of Man United exit

Manchester United captain has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford for quite some time, but the rumours have gained pace this week after Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho refused to rule out the possibility of Wayne Rooney leaving the club this month already.

The Portuguese tactician was asked on the subject and his reply was more than enough to send the rumours flying.

“You have to ask him. Of course I can’t guarantee (he will be here). I can’t guarantee that I’m here next week, how can I guarantee that a player is here next season?”, Mourinho was quoted by the BBC.

Mourinho’s latest comments are huge contrast to his October views, when he was adamant that Rooney was ‘going nowhere’.

Adding fuel to burning fire there are sensational reports from various news outlets including the ESPN that Wayne Rooney is set for an imminent move to an unnamed Chinese club willing to spend £30 million on the Manchester United captain.

Wayne Rooney is contracted to Manchester United until 2019, but a prospect on pocketing an astonishing £1 million per week would be enough to turn anyone’s head in the Chinese direction.

Should such a move materialise, Wayne Rooney would become the world’s highest-paid footballer.
