Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti believes his Italian giants can learn a lot from watching the thrilling 4-4 Champions League draw between Chelsea and Liverpool.
The two Premier League sides traded blows in a back-and-forth tie that remained in the balance right up until Frank Lampard’s late leveller on Tuesday, despite the aggregate score finishing 7-5 to the Londoners.
Moratti was so impressed by the never-say-die attitude exhibited by Chelsea and Liverpool that he wants to bring that spirit to the San Siro.
“The match between Chelsea and Liverpool showed that anything can happen in football,” he said.
“The strength of those two teams is that no player feels like a star or an untouchable.
“Everyone played with humility, starting with (Frank) Lampard who used his intelligence to help the team. Incredible.”
Inter were knocked out of the competition in the previous round by Manchester United, losing 2-0 at Old Trafford after the San Siro match ended scoreless.
“We played two good games against Manchester, especially at Old Trafford but we didn’t have any luck,” added Moratti.
“I don’t want to say that Chelsea and Liverpool are the examples of what we don’t have.
“They are the examples we have to follow. We already do so in the league but we have to learn how to be resolute also in the Champions League.”
