We’ll support Inter in Europe – Galliani

(GSM) – Milan chief executive officer Adriano Galliani insists he’s supporting Internazionale in the Champions League but also reminded them that they are still enemies in Serie A.

Inter advanced to the quarter-finals of Europe’s premier club competition on Tuesday by knocking out Chelsea.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Galliani was asked if Inter had been a topic of conversation at Milanello over the last couple of days.

“To be exact, I have explained what the consequences can be on June 30, 2011 if the German clubs were to overtake us in the UEFA co-efficient at the end of this season.

“In 2011 whoever finishes third in Serie A goes in the preliminary rounds and misses the holiday, while the team that finishes fourth is relegated to the Europa League. But we’re crossing our fingers.

“Inter have done well. It’s for the common good. Look, I support Milan, let’s not get confused. But in Europe I support the Italian teams.

“It would be self-destructive to be against them. Also because it’s essential that Juve and Inter make progress in Europe.

“I have also said so to the lads in the dressing room,” he added.

Galliani also talked about David Beckham who snapped his Achilles tendon while playing against Chievo on Sunday.

“He called me. David was leaving for London. I said to him that we expect him back for January 2011. He was happy.

“David is a great player who is in love with this jersey. He injured himself against Chievo, but he continued with a moral strength that was out of the ordinary. And then that cursed crack…”
