Arsene Wenger is hopeful Arsenal will complete the signing of Mohamed Elneny from Basel in the upcoming days.

The Egypt international has long been linked with a move to Emirates Stadium and Basel confirmed earlier this week that he is on his way out of the Swiss champions.

Work permit issues are believed to be holding up the deal for now, but Wenger thinks the transfer will be completed sooner rather than later.

“It’s a little bit complicated, but we work hard on it,” the Arsenal manager said at a news conference.

“I hope in the next two or three days we get to the end of it.”

Arsenal have also been linked with a move for Troy Deeney as they look to add some more depth to their attack, but Wenger was quick to stress they are not interested in signing the Watford striker, while also dismissing suggestions Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could leave the club for Chelsea.

“Are we interested in Deeney? No, we are not. That is rubbish,” he added.

“Oxlade-Chamberlain to Chelsea? Also rubbish.”

Wenger also had his say on the situation of promising youngster Serge Gnabry, who has been struggling to secure regular first-team action on loan at West Brom and could return to Arsenal early.

“He’s on loan at West Brom. It’s a year-long loan. We have a commitment,” the Frenchman concluded.

“The player wanted to go there. If they want to cancel the loan they have to contact us and speak to us.”
