Werder sign Croatian hotshot

Werder Bremen have announced on their official website that they have signed NK Zagreb defender Mateo Pavlovic.

The cost of the transfer was not disclosed, but it was revealed the player had signed a deal until June 2016 with the Bundesliga outfit.

“We have been observing Mateo Pavlovic for some time now. He is a young, talented centre back, who has a lot of potential and fits well into our team profile,” said Werder’s director of professional football and scouting Frank Baumann.

Pavlovic will be officially introduced in Bremen on 3rd January, when the squad is due to report from the winter break.

The 22-year-old has spent his entire career at NK Zagreb, a less famous club from the capital, making 83 league appearances and scoring 5 goals.

Despite featuring for Bosnia-Hercegovina Under-17 side, Pavlovic switched his allegiance to Croatia and is currently a member of Croatia Under-21 side.

He has been almost ever present for NK Zagreb this term, starting 18 of 19 league games, while making another two appearances in the Croatian Cup.
