West Ham enter Manuel Akanji race

London club West Ham have joined the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund for FC Basel defender Manuel Akanji.

The 22-year-old prospect impressed for FC Basel in group stages of the Champions League against Manchester United.

Akanji is set to feature in his team’s Champions League last 16 next month against another Premier League side, Manchester City unless he ends up leaving the Swiss giants in the meantime.

Swiss publication Blick reports that Akanji has his heart on the Borussia Dortmund move and is keen to leave FC Basel for Bundesliga but the situation is more complicated due to the transfer fee demanded by the Swiss heavyweights.

Dortmund appear unwilling to meet FC Basel’s €20 million valuation whereas it is being reported that West Ham are ready to swoop in with an offer worth €18 million for the talented defender.

Switzerland’s brightest young talent is also a target for Southampton.
