The crisis meeting between Schalke and Werder at the Veltins Arena saw Schalke joyous and Werder plunged further into turmoil with a 1-0 win for the home side.
“That was an extremely important victory,” Heiko Westermann told the club’s official website. “We made a big step forward this weekend. It was good to win 1-0 for a change. That was a real hard-fought duel. We made our own luck,” he added.
“We have to be more effective on the break once we have a lead”, Westermann concluded.
