Arsenal striker and captain Robin Van Persie is being heavily linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus.
The Old Lady of Italian football have revealed their interest in the Gunners talisman and their General Director Giuseppe Marotta has described Van Persie as a ‘Fans dream’.
Marotta told the media: “ Van Persie is a fans’ dream. Everyone has dreams but then you have to confront this with the reality. We know what we have to do, and that is the important thing.”.
That doesn’t sound very positive from the Italian’s point of view, but the Italy club still have a good chance of capturing the Dutch international’s signature.
Juventus are all of a sudden the dominant force of Italian football again. Last season they went unbeaten in Serie A to claim the league title. Under head coach Antonio Conte they have became a solid unit, who took the Italian top flight by storm last season.
With the likes of Inter and AC Milan in transitional periods Juventus could be in for a long period of dominance if they continue in the same vein next season. If Van Persie is to move to Italy then Juventus is definitely the club he should move to.
It seems unlikely that Robin Van Persie’s future lies at Arsenal, after he turned down the chance to extend his contract with the Gunners. He is a Gunners hero, but as a lot of Arsenal fans reminded me last season was the first season he has stayed injury-free in basically his whole Arsenal career.
He has been good for Arsenal but Arsenal have been good to him. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has stuck with him throughout his injury-problems and never stopped believing in the Holland international. I think it’s rather harsh on Arsenal that as soon as he has a good season and stays injury-free he wants to leave.
Robin Van Persie knows that he is now at the peaks of his powers and that if he doesn’t leave now he may never earn another big move. The Dutchman obviously doesn’t believe that Arsenal are capable of winning trophies next season.
The Gunners have endured a barren spell trophy-wise in the last seven seasons and Van Persie knows he hasn’t got much time left in his career to win silverware.
There is no doubt that a big pay rise for a move elsewhere will be tempting, but I don’t think that is RVP’s main reason for leaving the Gunners. I don’t know the Dutch international personally, so I couldn’t a judgment on his attitude towards money. I’d like to think he is moving clubs to win silverware though, rather than just to give himself one last big payday.
He appears to have options in the Premier League with champions Manchester City and bitter-rivals Manchester United believed to hold an interest in the striker. A move to another Premier League club would be like rubbing salt into a wound for Gunners fans though.
However, it seems that both United and City have the money to pry the Dutchman away from the Emirates. Manchester City have been linked with Van Persie for quite some time and would be able to offer him a major pay rise and a chance to win silverware.
Manchester United, as always will be challenging for the big trophies next season and would also offer him a big pay rise. With PSG now out of the running to sign Van Persie, it seems these three could be the only available options for the Dutchman. Not bad options eh?
I am not a Arsenal fan but I’m a big fan of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger and how he likes his team to play. Unfortunately, this style hasn’t brought the club any trophies in recent seasons and the Gunners have lost their top players in recent transfer windows.
However with no end in sight to the trophy-draught I think its unfair to ask Van Persie to stick around at the club and leave empty-handed at the end of his career. At 28 years of age he needs to join a club that can offer him a chance to win a trophy or two.
Can Arsenal offer him that at the moment?, I don’t think they can. It’s a pity because Robin Van Persie and Arsenal go together so well.
Where will Robin Van Persie be playing his football next season?
