Where would Mirko Vucinic fit in at Old Trafford?

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently stated that he didn’t think he would be making any more summer signings.

Yet today a story has emerged that Roma striker Mirko Vucinic could be heading to Old Trafford in the near future.

Meeting

According to Vucinic’s representative Alessandro Lucci he has already held talks with the Premier League Champions. Lucci told lasignoraingiallorosso.it.: “The meeting with the leaders of Manchester United was yesterday,”

“It has only been a chat, in which no offers have been made nor was there an agreement sorted. The English club, however, really like Vucinic, but to see him with the shirt of the Red Devils, there is still work to do.”

Speculation

It seems that a deal is way off and it seems that even his club Roma don’t know about the meeting. Vucinic’s agent really shouldn’t be talking about this in the press. He could however be using the speculation to get other clubs interested.

Talented

The Montenegro international striker is definitely a talent and he has flourished in the Italian top flight in recent years. His pace and dribbling ability would be well suited to the Premier League.

Needed?

The question is do Manchester United really need the talented striker? United boss Sir Alex Ferguson already has forwards Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen and Danny Welbeck all available to him.

That’s not to mention young Italian Federico Macheda, who will be looking to play more first team football next season.

I just don’t see where Vucinic would fit into the team when there is already so many forwards fighting to get into the starting line-up. The 27 year-old can also play as a winger but still I don’t see the need for another attacking player at United.

Priority

United’s priority looked as though it was to sign an attacking midfielder this summer. However United boss Ferguson is set to show faith in his current crop of midfield players and stated he won’t be signing a new midfielder.

Move

New Roma boss Luis Enrique has set about making his mark on the club from the Italian capital. It seems he wants to bring in his own players and ideas and Vucinic doesn’t seem to figure highly in his plans.

With this in mind I’m sure his agent will be trying to find him a new club as quickly as possible. If the rumours of Enrique not liking Vucinic are false then it could be a bargaining tool to get the striker a better wage in Rome.

Vucinic has already been linked with a move to the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers. I believe it’s unlikely that the striker would consider a move to Ewood Park a good career move at this present moment in time.

The current favourites to sign the striker are newly-ambitious Serie A side Juventus. The Old Lady are looking to strengthen their squad and have earmarked Vucinic as one of their top transfer targets this summer.

Replacement

Whatever the situation is with Mirko Vucinic and Roma it looks as though Roma have signed a replacement in former-Barcelona youngster Bojan Krkic. The youngster arrives with a big potential to fill.

However is he a partner or is he a replacement for the Montenegro international? Only Roma boss Luis Enrique really knows the answer to that. One thing I know is that Manchester United won’t be drawn into making a bid for the player just because his agent has said they are interested.

Mirko Vucinic signing for Manchester United this summer, I just can‘t see it happening.

Could Mirko Vucinic be heading to Manchester United?
