As usual the Premier League has been as entertaining as ever this season.

A number of players have stood out in the English top-flight this season and lit-up the Premier League.

Here are five players of the contenders for Player of the Year:

Harry Kane (Tottenham)

The Tottenham striker has gone from zero to hero in less than a season.

The 21-year-old striker currently has 19 Premier League goals for the season and is joint-top goalscorer in the league with Chelsea’s star striker Diego Costa.

It is incredible to think that Kane only made his first league start for Spurs in November and has since fired home 19 goals. The youngster’s age also means that he is a contender and the favourite to win Young Player of the Season.

Kane is set to win his first England cap on Friday, as the Three Lions face Lithuania at Wembley in a Euro 2016 qualifier.

Diego Costa (Chelsea)

Unlike Kane, the Brazilian-born Spanish international had already made an impact elsewhere, helping Spanish underdogs Atletico Madrid to an unlikely La Liga title and the Champions League final last season.

Love him or loathe him, Costa is a player that has had a big influence on Chelsea’s season. He is big, strong and always seems to be in the right place to make a crucial contribution to the team.

Any doubts about whether he could transfer his form the Spanish league to the Premier League have been blow away by the striker with 19 goals in his debut season in the English top-flight. His goals this season may just win Chelsea the title.

Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

The Belgium international playmaker is another reason that Chelsea are currently topping the Premier League table. The former-Lille star has scored 11 goals in the top-flight and also created six for his teammates.

Hazard has also created a league high 80 chances for his teammates in the top-flight this season. It is fair to say that Eden Hazard has a major influence on how Chelsea plays. If the Blues do go on to claim the Premier League title then the Belgium will deserve a lot of credit for the victory.

David de Gea (Manchester United)

The Manchester United keeper does not always receive the credit he deserves. Without him in-between the sticks this season the Red Devils may not be challenging for a top-four place and a Champions League spot.

De Gea has kept ten clean sheets in the Premier League this season and made some absolutely crucial saves for the Red Devils. Questions were asked about the Spaniard’s ability to handle the physical nature of the English game when he first joined United.

I doubt many are questioning De Gea’s ability now, as he has been outstanding for the Red Devils this season in goal. The Spaniard won United’s Player of the Year last season and it is hard to look elsewhere for the award this season.

The Spaniard now has a good claim for being one of the best goalkeepers in the English top-flight and arguably European football.

Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

The Chilean arrived from Barcelona last summer in a big money deal and has at times looked unstoppable. He is currently encountering a slight dip in form, but the former-Udinese star has scored 13 Premier League goals and also contributed seven assists for his team this season.

His pace and power have been ideally suited to the rough and tumble of the Premier League. Sanchez will now be hoping that he can regain the form of earlier in the season.

With Arsenal currently in the top three in the Premier League and the Chilean international having a big impact, his first season in English football must be considered a big success.

Points Winners

The Player of the Year award may be awarded to an individual player, but what impact the player has had on his team’s campaign also plays a big part in who receives the award.

In their own ways all five of these players have contributed majorly to their team’s seasons so far, and are likely to contribute even more by the end of the campaign. All five players mentioned would be realistic contenders for the award.
