Wigan lose Ramis, Maloney to injury

Wigan pair Ivan Ramis and Shaun Maloney have added to Roberto Martinez’s injury worries as they prepare to take on Manchester City.

Antolin Alcaraz (groin), Albert Crusat (knee) and captain Gary Caldwell (hamstring) are all already out of action, alongside Ryo Miyaichi (ankle) and Ben Watson (leg).

Maloney picked up a groin injury, while Ramis suffered a hamstring problem and both will miss Wednesday’s Premier League clash.

Martinez said that the former’s injury was the worst of the two.

“Shaun’s injury is worse than Ivan’s,” Martinez told reporters.

“He has picked up a groin strain and, although we’ll assess him, it looks as though he’ll be out for a while.

“With Ivan’s injury, we managed to catch it just in time before it got worse. He felt a twinge in his hamstring and we’ll assess him to see how long he’ll be out for.”

One consolation for the Spaniard will be the return of James McArthur, who made an appearance as a late substitute against Reading on Saturday after four weeks out of action.
