Will Arsenal be pleased or disappointed to say goodbye to Emmanuel Adebayor?

With the departure of Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal looking more and more likely for a fee of around £25 million, I wonder what Arsenal fans feel about the news.

Unplayable

Adebayor has had two and a half seasons at the Emirates and to an outsider he has looked to be completely unplayable at times. With pace, power, heading and finishing ability he has looked the complete package.

Despite that, I have read comments from Arsenal fans that suggest many would be pleased to see him move on. In fact, in one recent article I read Adebayor was voted by Arsenal fans as their, ‘biggest waste of space’. To finish ahead of Eboue and Bendtner in that poll, he must have seriously upset you gooners!

Silverware

The twenty-five year old Togo international striker has played a total of one hundred and forty three games for Arsenal since moving to the club from Monaco in January 2006. He has found the net on sixty-two occasions but has been unable to help the club lift any silverware.

Individually, Adebayor has been selected in the ‘team of the year’ by his fellow professionals in 2007-08, won the goal of the seasson award that same season and been named the African footballer of the year. For Togo, he has scored sixteen times in thirty-eight appearances.

Crucial

It is clear that Adebayor is a very talented striker and he has scored some crucial goals for Arsenal in all competitions. He has scored goals to beat Tottenham and Manchester United and he has scored goals in Champions League quarter-finals and semi-finals. Last season he scored hat-tricks at home and away to Derby County making him the only player to ever score home and away hat-tricks in the same season against the same opposition.

Last season Adebayor was plagued by injury but still managed to contribute sixteen goals in thirty-eight appearances, including six in nine Champions League games.

Gem

To an outsider then it looks like Arsenal have got a real gem of a striker who they would be doing everything they possibly could to keep. Yet it seems that the club won’t be too disappointed to see him go and nor will many of the fans.

There have been question marks over Adebayor’s attitude and temperament and his dedication to the Arsenal cause has also often been brought into question.

Punch

On the field, he was sent-off in the Carling Cup final defeat to Chelsea for allegedly throwing a punch at Frank Lampard and he was also infamously involved in a bust-up that left team-mate Nicklas Bendtner with a cut on his face. He saw red in a game at Anfield for another incident, but on the whole, his disciplinary record has not been too bad.

His attitude has led to rows with the manager of the Togo football team that have seen him dropped from the side on two occasions despite being named the Togo footballer of the year every year since 2005.

Rumours

Last summer, there were many rumours that Adebayor would be leaving Arsenal and the 6’3” striker did little to endear himself to Arsene Wenger or the Arsenal faithful, by failing to make it clear that he wanted to stay with the club. There were strong rumours of moves to either AC Milan or Barcelona and these rumours were stoked up by his agent and never denied by the player.

In the end Adebayor signed a ‘long term’ deal with Arsenal on the eve of last season and despite an initially lukewarm reception from many of the Arsenal fans, I thought he had worked his way back up the popularity ratings.

What do Arsenal fans think? Do you think you are losing an awesome striker who will be hard to replace or are you glad that a disruptive influence who gave less than his all for the club is moving on?

Arsenal as a club has so many players who have left in good faith and yet they had contributed a lot for the club better than Adebayor, so no regret or disappointment instead for adebayor being inferor he responded un professionally at the pitch which has costed him ban of three games and even abuse of football , also giving a bad gesture for African footballers, this is the like of Drogba in the champion

I think you are the first person to throw his child up and referred to him/her as ugly child. For you to say that Adebayor is better than all Nigerian players in Premiership right now doesn’t show any patrotism in you, and I wonder if really you are a Nigerian.

I’m an Arsenal fan and to be honest I am not too disappointed to see him leave the club. His performance for the last season was more or less affected by the transfer rumors so he didn’t really give his best. Anyway, Arsene has raised him from an unknown player to one of EPL’s top strikers. I’m happy to see him grow up and move on.

No single player can be in a club forever. EPL is not a non profit stuff, and players that define it should as well be like minded. We make our daily decisions independently, yet we want the players of our dear teams to consult us or our feelings when they are to make theirs. Football and business sense has to be in sync. Ok for Ade to leave for a better pay and arsenal to use the proceed for 1 striker + 1 dm + change. There’s always a budding star out there. Remember it took only Nasri to nail united at the emirates(2 goals) and Rapheal to pull back one back, among the conglomerate of stars on parade that day; remember? Football is a team sport and a team built around one player will not go far. Arsenal is and will always be great. I believe in Wenger. He is a master at assembling players. We only need to be a little more faithful and patient. It is only arsenal that has a sustained challenge to United’s reign at the EPL.

Adebayor is a very good striker when he puts the work in, however I think his 30 goal haul and African Footballer of the Year achievements in 07/08 went to his head, not to mention his love affair with AC Milan.

He has been nothing other than lazy this past season, he makes Berbatov look like Rooney his work-rate is so low. In the Semi-Final against United, he looked like there was some place he’d rather be. Also, this article fails to mention that he was called offside 43 times this past season, 43 times! This while missing a good chunk of the season. He needs 6 or 7 chances in order to score 1 goal, but the odd wonder goal here and there makes him look like a god to non-Arsenal fans who only see the highlight reel. He is a disruptive force in the changing room, a drain on the clubs finances, and he believes that after one good season that he is TH14. Sorry, Ade, it doesn’t work that way.

Also, if you think that RvP and Bendtner are shit than you clearly do not know a damn thing about football whatsoever. FACT.

I am SO SO glad to see this lazy, disruptive force gone from my team. A decent striker who plays his heart out (Bendtner) is more effective than a great striker who doesn’t give a fuck (Ade-money-whore). Good riddance to bad rubbish and I hope you flop at Man Citeh you poor excuse for a human being!

Ade.. is a good player but dont think he will be missed at asernal, if we consider the great players that have left asernal in the past. when theiry left i thought asernal were nothing but to my suprise they reached the semi finals of the champions league last season. we cannot allow one person to cause havoc in a team with young talented players. he was supposed to act as a role model but failed. he has been complaining of many things even at national team, money is the big motive for this guy. so go well ade… asernal are without money bro and after all they havent won any thing for the past 4 years and you think you need more than what you earn sorry. Asernal should not risk loosing fabregas, gael, persie, alumni, and rosicky.

Selling Adebayor is not too bad, but the bad thing about it is will Arsene Wenger fail to replace him, and not just replacing him, but with a better striker who is willing to give his best for the club. Because as a fervid Arsenal fan, its worry some hearing promises season after season, but at the end of the day the story will remain the same. I think it is getting out hand, so it is better Ade should go and then we get another player who can deliver what we the fans wants. So what Wenger needs doing now is to make sure that he either grab Huntelaar from Madrid or Chamahk from Bordeoux. Any of the above players will be a better replacement for Adebayor. Fare well and goodbye to you, Ade!!!

We should not blame him for all all the failures Arsenal has had. Despite his attitude that find sometimes bothering, the man still has an impact on the game with his presence. To be injured and still manage to score the number of goals and set up goals as he did last year was not bad. As fans we always seem to try to blame players for this and that. If we were good enough or better than they are at what they do…we should be playing the beautiful game not be spectators…

Well, let’s see what Arsene Wenger will do with the funds……maybe he should buy back Hleb (lol) who’s seems to be unsettled at Barca…….In any case they still stand a good chance of winning something with their injury problems apparently over……it’s cruel those young lads not having won any silverware despite how good they are……

Ade with a positive attitude is a good player. however at from last season he lacked this attribute. so 4 him to develop well as a player his move to a comfortable zone is ok.
now the ball is to arsene wenger to replace ade with even a better striker
putting in mide that city are improving their stricking power they might bring supprise to arsenal side the comming season.

One must always remember that football is a team sport,a team may have innumrerable no. of superstars but if they fail to work as a team then they are a useless bunch,England teams of past were best examples.Adebayor is not a team man, Arsenal will gain on all fronts by selling him.Football is all about scoring goals,ok agreed he scored 30 in a season, just refresh your memory, how many chances did he have to score those 30?, say a million!!!.
