Williams laments flat Swansea

SoccerNews in English Premier League 18 Mar 2013

Swansea captain Ashley Williams has challenged his side to improve after their disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Arsenal.

The Swans have virtually nothing to play for having already claimed the Capital One Cup at the end of February as well as securing their place in the Premier League for a third consecutive season.

That cup success also guarantees the Welsh outfit a maiden voyage into continental competition via the Europa League.

Williams, who has linked with a move to Arsenal as well as Liverpool in the wake of his performances this season, acknowledged his team-mates may have been lacking in motivation, and has urged them to improve in the final eight games of the season.

“We’ve got to find that motivation. If that’s what some people are lacking, they’ve got to find it,” the 28-year-old told reporters.

“I can’t imagine that they are but it’s important for us (to win) as much as anybody else.

“I don’t think we played very well (against Arsenal). It was the same as last week, maybe even worse. It’s disappointing to lose 2-0 at home.

“It was flat. No intensity or tempo. I’m not too sure why. I’d never question the lack of effort, there was just no intensity, no tempo, no urgency. In the second half we never looked like scoring.

“We’ve had a brilliant season up to now and it would be a shame to ruin it. We’ve lost two on the trot, last season we lost four on the trot in a spell and didn’t finish the season well.

“There’s no time to feel sorry for ourselves. We need points in the next game.”
