Wolfsburg complete Gustavo capture

Wolfsburg have completed the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo.

The 26-year-old – who was also a target for Premier League Arsenal – has signed a five-year deal with the Bundesliga side, for an undisclosed fee.

Gustavo was part of a Bayern team who completed an historic treble last season, winning the UEFA Champions League and DFB-Pokal titles to add to the Bundesliga crown.

However, he has found his first-team opportunities at the Allianz Arena limited, with his chances of a regular spot further hindered by the arrival of Thiago Alcantara from Barcelona during the transfer window.

The Brazil international had been touted for a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger an admirer.

But he has opted to continue his playing career in Germany.

The news is likely to be a further blow to Wenger, who has endured a frustrating time in the transfer market during the close-season – missing out on striker Gonzalo Higuain as he joined Napoli from Real Madrid, while the club’s pursuit of Liverpool forward Luis Suarez has so far proved fruitless.
