Xabi Alonso coy on retirement talk

Bayern Munich midfielder Xabi Alonso has yet to make a decision whether to retire at the end of the current campaign.

The Spaniard, who recently turned 35, will be out of contract in June, but he will reportedly be offered a one-year extension.

Alonso is still an important player for the Bavarians and they want to keep hold of him for another year.

However, it would appear as though Alonso has doubts over whether he should continue to play beyond the current campaign, and he will only decide on his future when his current contract nears closer to the end.

“We will see. Now is time to train and prepare. There is no deadline,” the Spaniard told reporters during a training camp in Doha.

Xabi Alonso joined Bayern Munich from Real Madrid two and a half years ago and he has since made 66 Bundesliga appearances for the club.

Alonso has had an important role to play under both Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, so no wonder the club chiefs hope he will extend his contract.
