Xabi Alonso linked with Liverpool return

The Daily Mail has suggested that Liverpool could make a move on former player Xabi Alonso in the near future.

It is believed that the new Reds boss Jurgen Klopp hopes to lure the Spaniard back to Anfield and following several unsuccessful attempts, it would appear as though the Premier League giants finally stand a decent chance of re-signing the veteran midfielder.

Namely, Bild has learned that Bayern have no plans to offer Alonso a new deal at Allianz Arena, as they want to give youngster Joshua Kimmich a chance to shine.

And with the midfielder’s deal set to expire at the end of the season, a summer move to Anfield is becoming a realistic possibility.

Xabi Alonso, 33, was surprisingly allowed to leave Real Madrid a year and a half ago and he went on to play an important role at his new club, making 36 Bundesliga appearances and scoring 2 goals.
