Xavi has reiterated his desire to sign a contract extension with Barcelona and remain at the La Liga leaders until the end of his career.

The Catalan giants recently opened contract talks with the influential midfielder, and although no agreement has been reached as of yet, the Spain international insisted he has no intention to leave the Nou Camp.

“We still have to finalise my new contract but I hope to be here for many years to come,” Xavi told fans at a social media event.

“I feel great physically, fully recovered from those injuries. Barca are doing everything it can for me to stay here and so am I. My greatest wish is to retire here.

“There have been tough times along the way, but I’m happy here and hope to stay and sign a new deal soon.

“This sport keeps me sharp and I hope to continue doing great things with Barca and the national team.”

The 32-year-old’s contract with Barca runs until June 2014.
