FC Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez has renewed his contract with the Spanish giants and is now to stay at the club until June 2014.
Negotiations took a while but the two parties eventually managed to come to a new agreement. The player signed his new deal in the company of club president Joan Laporta, tactical secretary Txiki Bergiristain and his personal agent Ivan Corretja.
Dubbed best player of this summer’s European Championships, Xavi has proven his value in Catalunya in recent years and grew to become one of the side’s main pilars.
Xavi is a true Barcelona product, having climbed through the youth ranks to make his first appearance for the first team in 1998. Since, he represented the Blaugrana on almost 300 occasions.
The player’s old contract tied him to the club until 2010.
