Pablo Zabaleta believes Alvaro Negredo would be a success if he were to join Manchester City from Sevilla.

The 27-year-old striker has been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium following the departure of Carlos Tevez, with his current club indicating on Wednesday that he will make the move to England.

Zabaleta is excited about the potential arrival of the Spaniard and thinks he would be a big hit at the club if manager Manuel Pellegrini was to complete the deal.

The defender played in La Liga for Espanyol and came up against Negredo on numerous occasions, and he has seen enough to convince him that he will be able to make an impact in the Premier League.

“Negredo is someone I’ve played against — he’s a good striker,” the Argentina international said. “A typical number nine. I’d say he is similar to Edin Dzeko, a tall player.

“He works very well inside the box or drops deep to receive the ball when he has to.

“He’s scored many goals every season in Spain. He did well at Almeria and Sevilla.

“If he’s the one we bring in then it will be because the manager has 100 per cent confidence about him and I would expect him to do well.”
