Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta has backed team-mate Carlos Tevez to put last season’s drama behind him and star in the new campaign.
The Argentine is confident Tevez’s presence in the Sky Blues’ first-team next season will be vital in their title defence ,which gets underway next month.
Tevez missed the majority of last season following a bust-up with City manager Roberto Mancini and going home to his native Argentina.
“We are all trying to forget what happened last season.” Zabaleta told Sky Sports.
“Carlos has been fantastic in training. He’s been prepared to work hard for the team and with his attitude and effort, that’s good for us.
“We know how important he can be and the way he is playing he’ll help us to more success. It’s good for me and Sergio (Aguero) too – the three amigos. I really enjoy having them both here, it’s great.”
Tevez’s long absence from first-team action last season meant he only played with fellow striker Aguero seven times, but Zabaleta is confident they can form a dangerous partnership.
“Their partnership at the end of last season was fantastic. They are really happy together and that’s good news for the team.
“They are both looking forward to the season.”
