(GSM) – Fulham striker Bobby Zamora is determined to be fit for his team’s Europa League final against Atletico Madrid. The England hopeful has been suffering from Achilles tendon injury.
Zamora is the club’s leading goalscorer needed a painkilling injection to play the second leg semi-final tie against Hamburg on Thursday night.
However, he only lasted until the early stages of the second half and watched the rest of the game from the sidelines as goals from Simon Davies and Zoltan Gera helped guide Fulham to the final of the tournament.
The English striker will possibly not play in Sunday’s Premier League game against his former club West Ham United. But Zamora is ‘desperate’ to be fit for the final clash against Atletico Madrid.
“I am desperate to be out there for the final, so the next couple of weeks will be really important for me.
“Maybe it was a bit of a gamble for me to face Hamburg, but I really wanted to play and would have done anything to do so.
“It was not the best performance by myself, and I am pleased to have been able to play some part.
“I can’t see me making West Ham, but we will see. I just want to make sure I am fit for the final.
“It is the tendon in my Achilles which I have got a bit of trouble with, so it will just be a case of looking after it.”
