Javier Zanetti says Inter Milan must look to next season following their Coppa Italia exit at the hands of Roma on Wednesday.

Inter needed to overturn a 2-1 defeat from the first leg of the semi-final tie, but were unable to turn things around at San Siro, where Roma recorded a 3-2 away win, advancing to the final 5-3 on aggregate.

“Now we must end the season as best we can and try to get a few players back who can give us a hand,” Zanetti told Inter’s TV channel.

“Then, calmly, we need to assess what needs to be put right so that we can start again next season and get back to being successful.

“You just need to have clear ideas and a joint target, a team that wants to play a leading role. Inter are a club that needs to be challenging every year.”

Inter resume Serie A action at home to Parma on Saturday.

They sit seventh on the table, trailing third-placed AC Milan – who occupy the final Champions League qualification berth – by nine points.
