Roma coach Zdenek Zeman has blamed Serie A’s recent slump on the Agnelli family, who own rivals Juventus.

Speaking in response to Bianconeri president Andrea Agnelli’s statement that the league needs reform, the Czech said that those changes should have been made long ago by Juve’s owners when they had a crucial say in the running of the Italian game.

However, Zeman did agree with Agnelli that drastic measures should be taken to bring Serie A back to the top of European football.

“Agnelli said that the system of Italian football is going through a period of rapid decline. I think he’s right, there is need for reform, a need to improve,” Zeman told reporters ahead of Roma’s clash with Udinese.

“The thing is, it’s something that everyone has been saying, meanwhile it’s another thing altogether to actually start the process of reform.

“They (the Agnellis) had football in their hands for 20 years and they had all that time to make those improvements.”
