Zenit join chase for Nicolas Gaitan

Russian giants Zenit have joined the race to sign Argentine winger Nicolas Gaitan from Atletico Madrid, according to Marca.

The highly rated footballer has been deemed surplus to requirements at Wanda Metropolitano and he is set to leave by the end of the January transfer window.

Clubs like Inter Milan, Swansea City, Boca Juniors, Watford, Southampton and Monterrey have so far expressed their interest, while new suitors have now come forward.

Namely, Marca claims that Zenit have emerged as frontrunners for the player’s signature as they are reportedly prepared to match Atletico’s €20 million asking price.

Nicolas Gaitan, 29, hasn’t quite managed to prove his worth in Spain, netting just three times in 29 La Liga appearances.
