Former Real Madrid midfielder Zinedine Zidane does not believe Cristiano Ronaldo will leave the Bernabeu in the close season.

Ronaldo’s future was thrown into doubt earlier in the campaign when he claimed to be unhappy at the club but Zidane, who is set to become Real’s sporting director if Florentino Perez is re-elected as president, says he will stay.

“Ronaldo is happy at Madrid,” the ex-France international told L’Equipe.

“He is very important for the team and will not move to a different club next season.”

It has already been confirmed that manager Jose Mourinho will leave the club at the end of 2012-13, and it had been suggested Ronaldo may look to follow his fellow Portuguese out of the Spanish capital.

While his contract runs until 2015, the 28-year-old has been linked with a transfer to wealthy French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
