Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta says he is in the dark over whether coach Pep Guardiola will sign a new contract with the club.
Guardiola’s existing deal expires at the end of this season but his players and club president Sandro Rosell are desperate for the former Spain midfielder to remain at Camp Nou.
Guardiola is yet to commit his future to the Catalans and Zubizarreta says he has not given him any indication as to what his plans are.
“Pep has not told me whether he will continue or not,” the former Barcelona goalkeeper told Catalunya Radio.
Barca’s squad has become stretched in recent weeks, with Andres Iniesta the latest first-team regular to succumb to injury.
However, while the January transfer window remains open, Zubizarreta does not feel Barca need to sign any replacements.
“We have very good players at home,” he argued. “(The reserve team) is our largest market.”
Turning his attention to Wednesday’s 2-2 Copa del Rey quarter-final draw with Real Madrid at Camp Nou – a result that gave Barca a 4-3 aggregate triumph – Zubizarreta said: “We saw an excellent version of Real Madrid.”
Barca return to La Liga action this weekend with a trip to Villarreal.
